Javier Bardem is a famous actor born in Las Palmas, Spain, on March 1, 1969. He made his on-screen debut when he was just six years old and went on to play rugby for the Spanish national team, according to CelebsInsight.

Bardem's mother, Pilar, raised him and his two older brothers in Madrid. His parents split up when he was a baby.

His grandparents were both in the entertainment industry, and Pilar was among the most accomplished actresses of her time. On the other hand, his uncle Juan Antonio Bardem was a director.

According to Hello Magazine, Bardem worked odd jobs like stripping and becoming an extra on films to pay for art college.

He was 20 years old when he appeared in the movie "The Ages of Lulu" with his mother. He eventually enrolled in acting school after his mother encouraged him.

Bardem's first international hit was the 1992 flick "Jamon, Jamon," in which he starred alongside 17-year-old Penelope Cruz.

The 2000 film "Before Night Falls" was his first English-speaking part, which made him an overnight Hollywood sensation as he became the first Spanish actor to be nominated for an Oscar for this film.

For the 2005 movie "Mar Adentro" (The Sea Inside), Bardem earned the best actor award at the Venice Film Festival.

He was also named best supporting actor at the 80th Academy Awards in 2008 for playing the role of killer Anton Chigurh in 2007's "No Country For Old Men." He made history as the first Spanish actor to take home the coveted trophy.

Bardem was also nominated for an Academy Award for his roles in "Before Night Falls," "Biutiful" and "Being the Ricardos."

Javier Bardem Dating History

Javier Bardem had at least two publicly known relationships. Not all is known about his past relationships and partners, as he has kept his personal life private during his long career.

He only has gone public with his girlfriend, Christina Pales, and his wife, Penelope Cruz.

Javier Bardem and Christina Pales

Javier Bardem reportedly dated Christina Pales between 1991 and 2005. Pales was his English teacher and translator, according to Zimbio.

"I'm in love with my English teacher. We have many of our lessons in bed," he previously said.

During an interview to promote "No Country for Old Men," Bardem told NZHerald that he was single, according to The Sydney Morning Herald.

"I'm single, I'm so single that it hurts," he said in his husky voice. "But I'm fine. I mean, this is a shit job for having a relationship. You're apart for such long periods."

Since Pales was not a movie star, the former couple reportedly did not share many common interests. And with so much in common, it is no surprise that Bardem eventually fell in love with Spanish actress Penelope Cruz.

Javier Bardem and Penelope Cruz

After working together in the Spanish film "Jamón Jamón," the Town and Country reported that Javier Bardem and Penelope Cruz lost touch for a while.

They reconnected in 2007 while filming "Vicky Cristina Barcelona." Since then, they reportedly knew they were destined for each other.

Bardem and Cruz got married sometime in July 2010. They have an intimate ceremony with close family and friends in the Bahamas. Together, they have two kids, Luna and Leo, and they quietly reside in a home in a Madrid neighborhood.

Despite their decades-long careers in Hollywood, Bardem and Cruz have managed to remain in a very discreet relationship.

Javier makes his first public comments regarding Penélope during the 63rd Cannes Film Festival. He accepted the award for best actor for his performance in "Biutiful" and gave the following acceptance speech: "I share this joy with my friend, my companion, my love: Penelope. I owe you a lot, and I love you so much."

With Bardem's nomination for best actor for his portrayal of Desi Arnaz in "Being the Ricardos and Cruz's" nomination for best actress for her part in "Parallel Mothers" in 2022, they become one of just six married couples to have received acting Oscar nominations in the same year.

In response to the nominations, Bardem commented, "I couldn't be happier to share this celebration with my talented wife, Penelope."

Currently, the Latino power couple still seems to be going strong.
