The New Orleans Saints faced their first loss of the season in a game against the Green Bay Packers, and it was marred by a significant setback as quarterback Derek Carr sustained a right shoulder injury.

Carr's injury occurred during the contest and forced him to exit the game prematurely, according to the NFL's website.

While Carr was initially ruled out of the game and transported to a local hospital for further examination, recent reports relieve Saints fans.

Carr's injury has been identified as an AC joint sprain in his right shoulder. Fortunately, no additional damage was detected in his throwing shoulder after several tests, as reported by NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport, citing sources.

Carr's return to the field will depend on the extent of swelling and his regaining of mobility, according to Rapoport. While he may still miss some games, it does not appear to be a season-ending injury for the Saints' quarterback.

The injury transpired when Carr was sacked by linebacker Rashan Gary during the third quarter of the game. The force of the sack brought him to the ground, and he could not protect himself while safeguarding the football.

Although he was slow to rise after the play, Carr managed to walk off the field but later headed to the locker room after an evaluation in the medical tent. Jameis Winston assumed quarterback duties for the Saints following Carr's exit. He remained in that role for the remainder of the game.

Saints head coach Sean Allen acknowledged that Carr was undergoing evaluation, which included X-rays, after the game, but he did not provide further details regarding the injury. Carr traveled back with the team after the game.

Derek Carr and the New Orleans Saints

The New Orleans Saints quarterback Derek Carr delivered a solid performance in Week 3 against the Green Bay Packers before being sidelined due to an injury, Clutch Points noted.

At the time of his exit, Carr had completed 13 of 18 passes for 103 yards and had thrown a touchdown pass to Jimmy Graham. The Saints were in the process of building a lead when Carr was forced to leave the game.

Carr'sFollowing his move from the Las Vegas Raiders, Carr's first season with New Orleans had been somewhat uneven.

While the Saints had achieved a 2-0 record, Carr's play displayed inconsistent moments. In the first two games, he had accumulated 533 yards, thrown one touchdown, and been intercepted twice.

Despite Carr's performances, the New Orleans Saints' defense had risen to the occasion in their previous games, playing a pivotal role in securing victories.

In Week 1, they held the Tennessee Titans to just 15 points; in Week 2, they limited the Carolina Panthers to 17 points.

Jameis Winston Regains Starting Role If Derek Carr Is Sidelined By Injury

If Carr is sidelined due to injury, Jameis Winston is expected to reassume the starting role, a position he has held for the Saints for the third consecutive season.

Winston opted to stay with the team this year despite taking a pay cut after the Saints signed Carr to a four-year, $150 million deal in free agency, per ESPN.

Winston expressed confidence in his team, emphasizing their ability to learn and improve from setbacks. He has prior experience as a starter for the Saints, having stepped in for an injured Drew Brees.
