Senate Republicans blocked the very border bill they wanted to be passed after Donald Trump pressured them to block it because it would make Joe Biden look good as the president was one of the biggest supporters of the Senate border bill.

The border bill was supposed to be a major bipartisan border deal and foreign aid package with assistance for Ukraine and Israel. It would have also enacted restrictive border measures that Republicans wanted themselves, as it was written by Sen. James Lankford of Oklahoma, one of the chamber's most conservative senators.

As CNN pointed out, Republicans had been demanding that border security be part of the deal, with President Joe Biden and Senate Democrats agreeing to the compromise. However, after Donald Trump posted on social media against the deal, claiming it would open borders even though it would do what it actually wanted, Senators scuttled the deal.

With the Senate border deal now in tatters, the upcoming aid for Ukraine and Israel is now in limbo, with Senators now getting pressure to pass foreign aid on its own without any border provisions. It is still not certain if some Republicans are opposed to giving more aid to Ukraine.

An urgent round of talks is happening right now for senators of both parties as they debate on whether a $95.3 billion foreign aid package would be passed as it would not have the bipartisan border deal that Republicans wanted but scuttled themselves.

Ukraine and Israel Aid Will Have Separate Vote After Republicans Crush Their Own Senate Border Bill

CBS noted that this failure to pass the border deal meant Republicans wiped out four months of negotiations that originally happened because Republicans opposed sending more aid to Ukraine without first agreeing to tighten security around the US-Mexico border. Democrats made several concessions to get the bill passed but Republicans just scuttled it, rendering the negotiations useless.

Now, as the Senate's focus shifts toward foreign aid to Ukraine, a separate vote is expected to happen, with Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer going ahead with voting on it anyway, forcing Senators to be put on the record with their positions, according to CBS News.

Today, senators face a decision several months in the making," said the Senator. . "Will Senate Republicans vote to start debate - just a debate - on bipartisan legislation to strengthen America's security, stand with Ukraine, and fix our border, or will they cow to Donald Trump's orders to kill this bill?"

Republican Senator Admits Killing Their Own Senate Border Bill Will Hurt Their Credibility

Senate Republicans who continued supporting the bipartisan border bill expressed their disappointment at their colleagues after folding from the pressure from Donald Trump. This includes Alaska Sen. Lisa Murkowski.

"I have a difficult time understanding again how anyone else in the future is going to want to be on that negotiating team - on anything - if we are going to be against it," she told CNN in an interview. "I've gone through the multiple stages of grief. Today I'm just pissed off."

Senators who folded to Trump's pressure received much backlash from the nevertrumpers of the Republican Party, as well as Democrats and the media.
