One Direction seems to be topping every aspect of the entertainment industry. On Friday, the boy band pummeled all other movies in the theaters as its concert documentary grossed $8.9 million on its opening day.

One Direction: This Is Us has Directioners screaming (literally) in excitement as the movie opened in theatres on Friday, Aug. 30. The 3D movie shot up to first place at the box office on its first day alone, after posting an impressive $8.9 million. According to Entertainment Weekly, the film's midnight screening on Thursday totaled $2.7 million already.

Directed by Morgan Spurlock of the indie epic Supersize Me, One Direction: This Is Us documents the lives of the British boy band as they shot to phenomenal fame. In the 3D documentary, the group composed of Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Liam Payne, Niall Horan and Louis Tomlinson takes fans behind the scenes while they tour the world. It also shows where the boys started out their singing careers before joining U.K.'s The X Factor.

With its opening day numbers, the film has beaten out other concert documentary's opening day ticket sales, including Katy Perry's Part Of Me which only grossed $7.2 million opening day, and even Michael Jackson's This Is It with $7.4 M.

The Hollywood Reporter notes that the Spurlock and Simon Cowell-produced film could gross somewhere between $22 and $25 million over the Labor Day weekend -- the highest during the holiday's film debuts since Halloween in 2007 with $30.6 million. This would also be the director's highest grossing film if ever.

This Is Us has pushed Lee Daniels' The Butler to second in the charts, followed by We're The Millers and Planes in third. Warner Bros.' Getaway, starring Ethan Hawke and Selena Gomez, had a disappointing opening with only $1.4 million.

One Direction: This Is Us is already showing in over 2,500 theaters and will soon roll out in cinemas all over the world.
