McDonald's is trying to appeal to a crowd seeking more choices and healthier options. Because of this, they are expanding their Create Your Taste program.

Declining sales, especially in November, could be driving the expansion of this program.

Create Your Taste gives customers the option to skip the lines and head over to a kiosk to customize their meals.

Customers use the touchscreen kiosks to choose everything from the bun to speciality toppings.

McDonald's has not made many changes like these to appease the "next-gen" diners. They added wraps and more salads, but the company has not been able to make a big change like this since they added breakfast to the menu over 40 years ago, according to Greg Watson, senior vice president of U.S. menu innovation at McDonald's.

"This is a big deal," Watson told USAToday.

McDonald's started testing this program at four Southern California stores. Next, McDonald's will expand the program to 30 stores in five states: Wisconsin, Illinois, Georgia, Missouri and Pennsylvania.

The Create Your Taste program will work for both burgers and chicken sandwiches. Many small, customizable burger places offer a similar service but not with chicken. This is where McDonald's can start getting some of their customers back.

Prices likely won't go up much for the program, but the wait times will. Because of the way the program works, customers could wait up to seven minutes to get their food. McDonald's strives to get their customers their food as quickly as possible, and seven minutes could turn some customers off.

What do you think of the new tablet-style create your own food program at McDonald's? Would you wait seven minutes for your food at a fast food restaurant?
