Retail sales numbers are beginning to roll out for Christmas week and Apple is easily at the top of the charts.

During Christmas week, Apple devices accounted for an impressive 51.3 percent of device activations worldwide. Samsung Electronics was in a no-where-near-close second place with 18 percent, and Microsoft came in third with 5.3 percent. (All right, who bought someone a Windows phone for Christmas? Shame on you.)

Mobile analytics firm Flurry put these numbers together by analyzing a number of popular apps, and following which mobile OS platforms they were installed on. The firm has also published a number of further interesting data.

Using information provided by the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the past nine months marked the first time that American consumers devoted more time to their mobile connected devices than watching television.

In a statement on their website, Flurry said, "It's clear that Santa is no longer into cookies -- he prefers Apples, if Christmas is a bellwether for the year ahead, we should expect strong performance from iOS devices and a continued shift to the once-derided phablet form factor."

Flurry has concluded that the iPhone 6 and the rise of the 'phablet' played a large role in the success of this holiday season. In their statement, they added, "App developers should take into account the fact that larger screens are becoming the primary device; it's not just the secondary primetime tablet anymore." The iPhone 6 Plus and the availability of an iOS model in a tablet ultimately contributed the most to Apple's impressive holiday numbers.

Flurry acknowledged that this year's numbers were an impressive jump, non-the-less noting that the years sales represent "a remarkable number considering the maturity of the U.S. market and the difficulty of getting recognized in app stores."
