Nicki Minaj and ex-boyfriend Safaree Samuels are reportedly on speaking terms, following their Twitter feud last month -- will they reunite soon?

According to Urban Islandz, although the couple of 12 years are now speaking to each other, it is still uncertain whether they will actually reconcile or not.

"They are speaking to each other but they have not rekindled their relationship, and I cannot comment on whether they will," a source close to the Young Money emcee revealed. "At one point, there were no communication, but it's a good sign that they are on speaking terms now."

So who initiated the contact? "[Minaj] texted [Samuels], 'Happy New Year,' and wished him all the best for 2015, and he responded the same," the source added. "I think they have been communicating since, but I don't know on what level or what they are talking about."

In December 2014, the pair got into a heated social media beef, in which the "Only" rapper suggested that her longtime lover was trying to blackmail her, tweeting:

"Even when I try to protect ppl, they still try to take advantage of me. Haven't u learned that God is in control? Stop while you're ahead. Anything you don't appreciate will be taken. God sees your ungrateful evil soul. I gave and gave and gave. Threatening me? Blackmail? Jump."

Nicki Minaj then publicly cried and expressed her heartache from the breakup during her emotional radio interview with Power 105's Angie Martinez.

"This is somebody I grew up with," she said. "Like, I don't even know how I'm going to function without that person in my life. I never lived my life as a famous person without him. I don't think people realize it's not just a breakup, that was a humongous part of my life."

Safaree Samuels also took Twitter to slam the "Anaconda" hitmaker for playing the victim:
