The Critics' Choice Awards announced their awards with "Boyhood" winning the Best Picture of the year.

The awards are known for predicting the Academy Awards and have coincided with the Academy four times out of the past five years.

"Boyhood's" win was no surprise as it won the Golden Globe and was nominated for six Academy Awards. The movie also scored rave reviews at Sundance and later won the Best Director award at the Berlin Film Festival. "Boyhood" later went on to become a box office hit during the summer and since then has swept the majority of the critics prizes.

Among the winners that have already won both the Golden Globe and the Critics' Choice are Patricia Arquette for her work in "Boyhood" and J.K. Simmons for "Whiplash." Both stars are likely to continue their winning streaks at the BAFTA awards in February and at the Academy Awards.

Julianne Moore also repeated her win at the Critics' Choice for her film "Still Alice." The actress has been the front-runner from the beginning of awards race since the film premiered at the Toronto Film Festival and was later acquired by Sony Pictures Classics.

Michael Keaton also repeated his Golden Globe win for "Birdman." The actor has also swept the precursor awards and coincidentally also won the Best Comedy Actor award during the Critics' Choice ceremony. Keaton's awards run has been in the headlines ever since the film premiered at the Venice Film Festival and many pundits have praised his performance as the comeback of the year.

Richard Linklater won the Critics' Choice for Best Director for his work on "Boyhood." Linklater also won the Golden Globe and has swept the majority of the precursor awards. Expect the director to take home the Oscar unless he somehow loses the Directors Guild of America award.

The Critics' Choice also chose "Glory" from "Selma" for the Best Song and the film is likely to repeat the award at the Oscars especially after winning the Golden Globe.

Other winners that will likely repeat at the Oscars include the Best Production Design and Best Costume Designer for "The Grand Budapest Hotel." Emmanuel Lubezki will also most likely repeat the Best Cinematography award at the Oscars. The director of photography has already swept the precursors and, since "Birdman" is a front-runner for Best Picture, the film will likely pick up a number of below-the-line awards.

While many of the winners will likely coincide on Oscar Sunday, a number of winners will not be going home with the Academy Award. Among those winners included "The Lego Movie," which won the Best Animated film award. That movie was not nominated for the Best Animated category at the Oscars.

"Birdman" also won the Editing award at the Critics' Choice but was not nominated for the Academy Award. The category is currently up in the air as "Birdman" has dominated the precursor awards.

Gillian Flynn also continued to dominate the Best Adapted Screenplay award at the Critics' Choice. However, Flynn's "Gone Girl" was not nominated at the Oscars and, as a result, this will be another category that will be unpredictable at the Academy Awards.

The Critics' Choice also awarded Ron Howard with the Guinness award and Jessica Chastain with the MVP award. Kevin Costner also received a lifetime Achievement Award. The awards ceremony also gave "Guardians of the Galaxy" the Best Action Movie prize while "The Grand Budapest Hotel" won the Best Comedy award. Meanwhile, "Interstellar" won the Best Sci-Fi/Horror Film award.
