On Thursday, Sony announced 11 apps that will be available with its new PlayStation 4, which will be released Nov. 15.

The PS4 will be equipped with Amazon Instant Video, Crackly, Crunchyroll, Epix, Hulu Plus, Netflix, NBA Game Time, NHL Gamecenter, Redbox Instant, Vudu and YuppTV. Sony's Music Unlimited and Video Unlimited will also be available on the PS4. More apps will be added in the future

"Leveraging the power of [the PlayStation Network], PS4 gamers will have access to a rich portfolio of services starting on day one that feature the hottest movies and television shows, unique specialized content and live sports programming," Sony said.

Some of the sports and entertainment apps are not new to PlayStation users. In fact, Sony says that more people currently enjoy Netflix via the PlayStation 3 than on its competitor, the Xbox 360.

The apps will help the PS4 compete with Microsoft's upcoming video game console, by being more than just a video game playing device. On Nov. 22, Microsoft will release Xbox One, which is being marketed as the one and only console needed for gamers' entertainment needs.

According to PS4: The Ultimate FAQ, which Sony released last week, the PS4 will be the first PlayStation that is incapable of playing CDs. MP3s and media sharing are also not compatible with the PS4. To distinguish itself even more from its older siblings, the PS4 won't play PS3, PlayStation 2 or PlayStation games.

PS4 will be launched in North America on Nov. 15 for $399.99, while the Xbox One will launch in North America on Nov. 22 for $499.99. It has been suggested that these prices may drop sooner than usual.
