Detroit Tigers slugger Miguel Cabrera and Pittsburgh Pirates star Andrew McCutchen are the recipients of the AL and NL MVP awards, respectively, for the 2013 baseball season.

Cabrera, who won the award for the second consecutive season, tore up opposing pitchers all season long en route to a .348 batting average to go along with 44 homers and 137 RBI. He managed to do all of this despite nagging injuries that kept him from doing even better.

McCutchen on the other hand became the first Pirates player to earn the award since Barry Bonds did all the way back in 1992. McCutchen's MVP award goes along nicely with his skipper's Manage of the Year Award. Clint Hurdle is credited with helping the organization bounce back from decades of irrelevance.

Although McCutchen only ended with a .317 average, it was mostly because of early-season struggles. As USA Today pointed out, he hit .336 from April 30 until the end of the baseball season.

McCutchen was a huge part of his team's 94-win season and he is solidifying his place in Pirates history with every passing season. He signed a five-year contract before the 2012 season to put him at the top of the team's prioirities moving forward and an important piece of their rebuilding puzzle.

Cabrera also was a large part of his team's journey to the ALCS this season when the Boston Red Sox knocked them out at the very end before going on to win the World Series against the St. Louis Cardinals.
