These game consoles have battled it out in terms of specs. Now that the competition lies in sales, Microsoft seems to be lagging pretty far back.

According to a report, Sony's PlayStation 4 outsold Microsoft's Xbox One by as much as 66 percent. Sales for the PS4 amounted to 1.25 million units during November. On the other hand, Xbox One sold only 750,000 units on the same month.

Experts are saying that the difference might be due to the different release dates of both game consoles. Sony's PS4 was released to the US market November 15. Microsoft's Xbox One was released at a later date of November 22 to 13 markets including the US.

The Mirror quotes Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter:

"The reason Sony beats Microsoft is solely the price. Microsoft loses the next generation unless they cut price."

Ebay sales of both game consoles were also compared. Statistics show that PS4 sales have outnumbered Xbox One sales on the said internet shopping site.

During Sony's launch week dated November 15 to 22, it has sold consoles and accessories amounting to $12,554,233 on Ebay. Microsoft's launch week for their prime console and its accessories dated November 22 to 29 gathered $7,898,233 in sales on the same internet shopping site.

It is important to note that the launch week for Sony's PS4 only made the console available to the US while Microsoft opened sales to over 13 markets throughout its launch week.

Although Sony outran Microsoft in terms of launch week sales, Microsoft reportedly brought in more dollars on its first day. However, market research group Terapeak says that the first day high sales of Microsoft could be partly due to the Xbox One costing $100 more than the PS4.

According to the Christian Post, game industry analyst Matt Matthews believes that both consoles will not be due for a price cut anytime soon.

"The two new consoles will likely not have official price drops until spring 2015, at the earliest," said Matthews.

Other experts are looking at price drops for both PS4 and Xbox One in a couple of years, at the very least.

The launch of these next-generation consoles are regarded as one of the most successful launches in game history.
