“The Martian” is a new space-centered film that will feature Matt Damon. This will be the actor’s second time to be featured in a film that has an intergalactic storyline, especially after the role that he portrayed in “Interstellar” last year.

Just very recently, 20th Century Fox revealed some movie photos that gave Damon’s fans something to look forward to about “The Martian.” Damon’s character is named Mark Watney and the photos give the audience a sneak peek on what the actor would look like in his Mars-worn spacesuit.

The set looked like a product of CGI or computer-generated imagery, but it was actually a particular area in the deserts of Jordan. The Middle Eastern country’s terrain looked quite similar with that of Mars.

Although “Interstellar” and “The Martian” are two completely different movies, Damon’s roles are reportedly quite similar. He becomes stranded in a very harsh alien setting, where he spends every day fighting for his survival.

He will play the role of a botanist who works hard to cultivate what resources Mars has to offer on its surface. Although he was initially a part of a team, he later gets separated from the rest of the group when a massive storm hit their area.

Later, he realizes that he is alone and stranded on the red surface of Earth’s next door neighbor. In order to survive, he makes use of the barren planet’s limited resources that he has discovered on the planet, and uses science to keep himself alive.

Sadly, the tools installed on his spacesuit malfunctioned and misinformed his team that he is dead. They hightail it back to Earth, but find out two and a half months later that fellow scientist was actually alive.

However, Collider has stated, via an interview with Empire, that Watney was not going to stay alive for very long since “he has got 28 days to live. That is, if everything goes well for him. Instead of him collapsing into terror, he knuckles down” and finds ways on how he can surpass his life’s 28-day deadline.

“Any survival story is fascinating,” Scott told Empire. “I think of it as a 21st century Robinson Crusoe.”

The film will be directed by Ridley Scott and it is based on the bestseller written by Andy Weir. According to the report, Damon will be joined by Kristen Wiig, Jessica Chastain, Jeff Daniels, and Chiwetel Ejiofor.

According to multiple online reports, “The Martian” was originally slated for a directorial follow-up for Drew Goddard. However, Scott stepped in when Goddard decided to prioritize “Marvel’s Daredevil” and “Sinister Six.”
