During a recent interview with Elle, Amber Heard opened up about her marriage to Johnny Depp and the obstacles she's faced as a rising actress.

Heard, who's been in a relationship with Depp for several years and tied the knot this past February, described married life as a natural progression.

"Nothing is a dramatic change. We've been together for a long time now, so it's been a fairly organic process," Heard explained. "I have a fiercely independent spirit."

She added, "I fall in love again and again."

E! News notes that though Heard disclosed a few details about her marriage to Depp, she was mindful not to share too much, as she wishes to keep her private life under wraps in order to allow fans to focus on her work as an actress.

"The thing that really scares me is the potential of losing my freedom," the "Magic MikeXXL" star revealed. "I never want for my life to lose the ability to transverse the world, with freedom and ease-the freedom and ease I have worked so hard to acquire for myself."

Part of her attempt to "transverse the world" requires Heard to be very picky when it comes to choosing roles. Heard revealed that she gets "a stack of scripts" once a month but only chooses a few roles because she feels that most female characters she comes across are not dynamic or diverse women.

"Most of the time, you find these placeholder girls that are there to provide a bounce for the male character," Heard shared.

She continued, "I mean we're trying to imitate life, and it seems to me a deeply saddening injustice that we are so uncreative and uninterested in developing representations of female life."

Elle's July issue featuring Amber Heard is available online on June 16. The issue hits newsstands nationwide on June 23.
