The iPad Air is being dragged for the proverbial filth in the latest commercials for the new Samsung tablet -- which is being taken to task alongside Apple's latest round of "change the world by changing your tablet" commercials.

CNET is reporting that Samsung -- whose Galaxy S5 is probably the most anticipated Android phone of 2014 -- pokes fun at Apple's reportedly "retro" nature by comparing the Air to the "greatest innovation of all time"... the pencil.

The commercial goes on to further say that the iPad isn't all it's cracked up to be BECAUSE it's as thin as a pencil. But the Galaxy Tab Pro's biggest claim to fame is... wait for it... being thinner than the iPad Air. What's more, they got Walter White of Breaking Bad to narrate the whole point in the first place (so you know it has credibility!).

Time Magazine takes it all one step further: "Samsung has emerged as a powerful second-place competitor to Apple in the tablet space. The company sold 41.1 million Galaxy tablets in 2013, compared to Apple's 74.2 million iPads, according to research firm IDC. Still, it's not clear that mocking Apple is always a winning strategy. Microsoft launched a $300 million campaign in 2008 to try to make the "I'm a PC" catchphrase cool after Apple successfully goaded Windows users in its iconic "Mac vs. PC" commercials. But Microsoft's counterattack debuted at the same time Apple was taking over mobile computing, so it did little to slow the company's ascent."

The iPad Air marks the first major design change for the iPad since the iPad 2; it now has a thinner design that is 7.5 millimeters thick and has a smaller screen bezel similar to the iPad Mini. Apple reduced the overall volume for the iPad Air by using thinner components resulting in a 22 percent reduction in weight over the iPad 2. Though it still uses the same 9.7-inch Retina Display as the previous iPad model, an improved front-facing camera makes using Face Time much clearer. The new front facing camera is capable of video in 720p HD, includes face detection, and backside illumination. The rear camera received an upgrade as well; now being called the iSight camera, in addition to the same functions as the front camera it also contains a 5MP CMOS, hybrid IR filter and a fixed ƒ/2.4 aperture.
