Game 1 of the 2015 World Series is in the books. The Kansas City Royals have taken a 1-0 series lead after they defeated the New York Mets 5-4 in 14 long innings. Don't feel like watching the GOP debate on Wednesday night? That's okay, just tune in to Game 2 of the World Series.

The Mets are down but certainly not out. Jacob deGrom will be on the mound in Game 2, and that's just what the Mets want. deGrom has been perfect this postseason with an unblemished 3-0 record and a 1.8 ERA. deGrom isn't just pitching at a high level, but he has beat and outdueled other greats such as Clayton Kershaw and Zack Greinke this postseason. It feels like deGrom always allows a run in the first inning but rebounds beautifully afterwards.

Yoenis Céspedes has been a fantastic addition by the Mets, but his outfielding mistake in the first inning of Game 1 proved to be costly. Venezuelan shortstop Alcides Escobar led the Royals off with an inside the park home run because of that out fielding blunder. What's done is done, and it's time for the Mets to regroup. Winning Game 2 is extremely crucial considering the fact that the Mets have their ace on the mound and they are down 0-1.

Daniel Murphy's six game home runs streak came to end in Game 1. He did however contribute for his team with multiple hits and a run scored. The biggest issue for the Mets in Game 1 was clutch hitting. They were a combined 1-10 with runners in scoring position.

For the Royals, it started and ended with Escobar. He led them off with an historic inside the park home run, and he scored the game-winning run in the bottom of the 14th inning. The Royals were in a similar situation last year. They led the San Francisco Giants 2-1 after three games of play but eventually lost the all decisive Game 7 at home. Just like last year, the Royals will be at home because the American League won the annual All-Star game.

Johnny Cueto will starting Game 2 for the Royals.

Cueto is as talented as any pitcher in the game today, but you just never know which Cueto is going to show up. If Cueto can out-pitch deGrom and lift the Royals to a 2-0 series lead, this could very well be over sooner rather than later. Cueto is a free agent this coming offseason, so he has to make his case for a new contract. He is also scheduled to start Game 6, if there is one.

Schedule

Game 2 will be played at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri. The game will be televised on FOX beginning at 8 p.m. EDT.

Prediction

This is a big one. It's clearly a bigger must-win game for the Mets as they are down 0-1, and they have their ace on the mound. Cueto should give the Royals some quality innings, but deGrom will have the last laugh. More than likely this series is going seven games. If the Mets can just win one of the first two games on the road, they're in a good spot.

Mets win Game 2, 5-3
