Kal Penn, who is most famous for his titular role in the "Harold and Kumar" franchise, is slated to star in a new series on ABC titled "Fair and Balanced."

According to Deadline, the seasoned Hollywood comedy star is about to reunite with the writers of his hit "Harold and Kumar" franchise, Hayden Schlossberg and Jon Hurwitz, to bring this new comedy series to fruition. The title appears to be a play off the trademark catchphrase for conservative cable news outlet Fox News.

The series will feature Penn as a man who aspires to work for NPR (National Public Radio) as a reporter. But when the dream job does not turn up for him, he is swayed to work for a news channel similar to Fox News.

Penn has had enough career experience with political news in real life that he will also serve as a special consultant on the show's content. The actor has been highly involved with domestic politics over the years, serving in various national capacities.

On top of appearing on various news shows in his life, he has also served as a correspondent for Vice News, two years in Washington as an associate director at the White House Office of Public Engagement, and as a member of President Obama's National Arts Policy Committee. These real life experiences will drive the comedy and relevant content of the new series.

The series will be a single-camera comedy. Since ABC is a broadcast network and falls under FCC control, the show will not have quite as much wiggle room as similar shows on premium cable networks in regards to content.

There has been no word yet when the show will premiere on ABC.
