-------------------------------

The Saturday, May 14th Powerball prize will be worth at least $50 million after there were no winners during this week's earlier drawing.

That makes for a cash option prize of $33.1 million for a single winner, according to Powerball officials. You can view the drawing live via stream here beginning at 10:59 p.m. ET.

Powerball is being offered in 44 states across the U.S., as well as Washington D.C., Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Players compete by selecting five white numbers from 1 to 69 and one red pick from between 1 and 26.

Tickets Sold all Over the Country

Each ticket costs $2 and ticket sales typically cut off about an hour before the drawing commences.

Despite all the glitz and glamor now associated with the drawing, the game largely remains one of chance, as evidenced by the recent $429.6 million win by a family from New Jersey.

Pastor Pearlie Mae Smith labeled her grand fortune an act of "divine intervention," adding she rarely plays the game or gambles at all. As for her selection of the life-changing digits, she insisted the numbers simply "popped into her mind" before she ventured to a 7-Eleven store to purchase her ticket.

Winning New Jersey Family Planning Community Investment

The family now insists they plan to spend much of the money investing in their Trenton, New Jersey community. The win was the largest in state history, netting store owner Andrea Shinn a $30,000 prize for selling the winning ticket.

The family has already opted for the cash payout and will receive a lump sum of $284 million.

Powerball officials calculate the odds of walking away with a grand- prize winning ticket at 1 to 292,201,338.00.
