Gamers from all over the world have been eagerly waiting for the release of Minecraft on the Xbox One and Playstation 4 platforms, but until now there were only murmurings of a release date.

Ecumenical News reported Sunday that Wal-Mart has officially listed a price for the Xbox One version of the virtual sandbox video game. On the retail chain's website, it placed the "Minecraft: Xbox One Edition" for sale at $59.96 and with a release date of December 2014.

Both 4J Studios, the company that developed the game for Microsoft and Sony's consoles, and Mojang, which created the game as its flagship product, have previously stated in interviews and Twitter that they are working on making the game's world bigger.

Xbox Corporate Vice President Phil Spencer, who spoke to IGN in March, said he had recently spoken with 4J Studios during the Games Developer Conference in San Francisco about the production and told him the company was making solid progress.

Last week, 4J Studios responded to a tweet that asked how development was coming along. The developer wrote back that production was "fine" and that they were "working with Sony/Microsoft on world size -- not "infinite" due to save limits but a lot bigger than PS3/Xbox 360."

According to Ecumenical News, the "Minecraft: Playstation 4 Edition" will allow gamers to set the interface and menu by using the console's touchpad on its gamepad. The next-gen consoles are also rumored to allow saved worlds to be imported from the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions.

4J Studios released the "Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition" in 2013 first before releasing the "Minecraft: PS3 Edition." The Xbox One version was supposed to be in development before the PS3 release, but 4J Studios decided to focus on the PS3 version instead.

To avoid any software bugs, both Mojang and 4J Studios are taking their time and not rushing the development, Ecumenical News reported.
