Tiger Woods is unsure when he can make his much awaited return from a back surgery, and the golf superstar could miss the upcoming US Open, which is set to start on June 12 in North Carolina.

Woods said Monday at the Congressional Country Club that he has yet to make full swings seven weeks after undergoing surgery to alleviate a pinched nerve in his back.

The 38-year-old golfer gave no return timetable, saying that he is being evaluated on a day-to-day basis, while also adding that the decision about his comeback will be made by his doctors.

"There really is no timetable," Woods said via USA Today. "That's been kind of the realization to all of this is that there's no date. I have to take it on a daily basis. It's not going to be up to me whether I play or not, it's going to be up to my docs."

Woods, who started experiencing back pains during the Honda Classic, has not played since the final round of the WGC-Cadillac Championship on March 9.

He also failed to defend his title at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, and was forced to withdraw from the Masters, skipping the tournament for the first time in his illustrious career.

"I want to play now. I miss playing," Woods said. "I miss being out there on the golf course. I miss getting out there and hitting balls and just playing. I miss the game. Forget about competing at the highest levels, I just miss being out there and just being around the golf course."

Woods added that while he is itching to return to competition soon, he is not looking to rush things, which likely means that he is willing to skip major tournaments until he is fully healthy.

Woods, who was supplanted by Adam Scott atop the world rankings on Monday, might not be fit enough to compete at the US Open in Pinehurst next month, and might also miss the British Open in July and PGA Championship in August.

"I'd love to play, but I just don't know," Woods admitted. "And as I said, that's one of the more frustrating things. There's no date, there's no timetable. Just taking it day by day and just focusing on trying to get stronger and come back."
