Microsoft and Sony have confirmed the prices of the Xbox One and PS4 game consoles and accessories on each of their official websites.

According to Microsoft's official website, the Xbox One Day One Edition will officially cost $499, including the Kinect camera. Sony's website lists the PlayStation 4 at $100 less than the Xbox One -- $399 with an optional purchase of the PS4 Eye camera, which costs an additional $59.99.

The Xbox One wireless controller is priced at $59.99, and the PS4 controller costs the same amount. PS4 controllers are available for pre-order at Amazon, Best Buy, Game Stop and Walmart, with Amazon and Walmart listing the PS4 controller's price at $59.96.

Other Xbox One accessories available for purchase are the Xbox One Play and Charge Kit which costs $24.99, the Xbox One Chat Headset which costs $24.99 and an Xbox One Wireless Controller and Play and Charge Kit bundle which costs $74.99. The Xbox One Wireless Controller and Play and Charge Kit bundle will save gamers $9.99 off the combined price of these two accessories, amounting to a combined total of $84.98.

According to Techland, the Xbox One keeps getting more expensive -- prompting gamers to spend a little bit more to get the best gaming experience out of their consoles. The Xbox One Wireless Controller runs on non-rechargeable AA batteries which will tempt gamers to purchase the $24.99 Play and Charge Kit. On the other hand, the PS4 game controller has built-in rechargeable batteries, giving gamers no trouble with power supply. Techland also says that the use of applications like Netflix and chatting with friends on the PS4 is possible without added cost. As for the Xbox One, a 12-month Xbox Live Gold Membership priced at $59.99 is required to use such services.

The low PS4 launch price demonstrates how focused Sony has become, said Akihiro Hino, CEO of Professor Layton Studio Level-5, in a report by CVG. Not only is the PS4 $100 cheaper than the Xbox One, but it is also $200 cheaper than the original PS3's recommended retail price.

"The number-one surprise for me was the PS4's price. I think anyone can look at that and think 'This is cheap!' Putting cutting-edge PC specs into a game machine that costs just a few hundred dollars really brings across how serious SCE is about this generation. I think the Xbox One is pretty cheap considering what you get with it as well, but with this PS4 price point, they'll have to do something to oppose that. Looking at all the new media, it's easy to see how console gaming is still the main entertainment space people work in. I can't wait for the next generation to really spread out into households," said Hino in a report by Polygon.
