Former teen music sensation Aaron Carter tragically passed away in his California home. Now, new details regarding the cause of his death have been revealed.

The former teen idol became infamous for his downward spiral filled with drugs and questionable behavior. However, Aaron Carter was trying to improve himself when he tragically died. As usual, many thought he might have died of a drug overdose, but the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner revealed that this was not the case.

Carter was found dead inside his bathtub, and the coroner found that he died of drowning. The coroner did find that the former teen singer inhaled difluoroethane, a refrigerant, and took alprazolam, better known by its brand name, Xanax, a potent tranquilizer.

Billboard reported that this combination of the gas and the drug caused the "I Want Candy" singer to become "incapacitated while in the bathtub" and eventually slip below the surface of the water while under the influence.

His death was officially ruled as accidental, with his cause of death being made public by the L.A. Coroner's office on Tuesday, according to CBS News.

Difluoroethane is "commonly used as a propellant in air spray cleaners for electronic devices and can induce feelings of euphoria when inhaled." Meanwhile, alprazolam can cause "drowsiness and sedation."

Aaron Carter's Fiancé Reacts to His Cause of Death

Aaron Carter was supposed to get married to Melanie Martin, his longtime girlfriend and the mother of his child. Martin told TMZ that the autopsy result was not a closure for her.

"It claims death is by drowning but also adds he was wearing a t-shirt and necklace in the bathtub which doesn't make sense, why would he be in a bathtub with clothes on," she said, while admitting she is still in shock and that she misses Aaron every day.

"I don't understand the chain of events and this report only has us asking more questions," she told the entertainment outlet.

Martin also claimed there was a text exchange on her fiancé's phone revealing that Carter owed someone $800 for an unknown substance. She submitted the exchange to authorities for further investigation.

Because Carter was found in the bathtub with his clothes on, many, including his mother Jane Carter, believed that there was foul play involved. She posted images of her son in the bathtub to try and get more attention to the case.
