Donald Trump's legal problems may be catching up to him as President Joe Biden finally regains the lead after months of struggling in the polls against the former president, who used his legal problems as a rallying cry for his supporters and rack up support.

Quinnipiac University's national poll had the Democratic president up by six points against his embattled rival in a hypothetical head-to-head match-up, according to The Hill. Biden received 50 percent of the support among registered voters, while Donald Trump had 44 percent.

The shift in support started going for Biden around December when a previous Quinnipiac poll had Biden getting 47 percent support and Trump at 46 percent.

While Trump is dominating the Republican primaries, he is shown to struggle once it comes to the national stage, as his legal battles are turning off independent voters. This is shown in this very Quinnipiac poll, as Biden received 52 percent support from independents, while Trump only had 40 percent.

There is also a big gender gap in the support for Trump in Biden, as the incumbent currently has a 58 percent support from women, while Trump is touting a much more divisive 53 percent support from men.

"The gender demographic tells a story to keep an eye on. Propelled by female voters in just the past few weeks, the head-to-head tie with Trump morphs into a modest lead for Biden," noted Quinnipiac University polling analyst Tim Malloy in the report.

The same poll also found that should Nikki Haley beat Trump for the Republican nomination, she might beat Biden in a hypothetical head-to-head match-up, scoring 47 percent of the vote to Biden's 42 percent.
