The Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield has inked a three-year deal worth $100 million, with $50 million guaranteed, as reported by ESPN sources on Sunday.

The Buccaneers-Baker Mayfield deal includes a base salary of $30 million guaranteed in 2024, followed by $30 million (with $20 million guaranteed) in 2025, and a cap hit of $40 million in 2026.

Additional incentives provide the potential to elevate the contract's maximum value to $115 million.

The Baker Mayfield deal was confirmed through ESPN's Adam Schefter, who expressed his eagerness to continue with the Buccaneers. "I wanted a chance to come back. I love coach [Todd] Bowles and the staff. I'm happy to be here, and I want to win more in the postseason," Mayfield stated.

The quarterback originally joined the Buccaneers on a one-year deal worth $4 million in March 2023, thrust into the formidable position of replacing the legendary Tom Brady, a seven-time Super Bowl winner.

Impressive Comeback and Postseason Success

Baker Mayfield's 2023 season proved transformative, marked by impressive road victories against the Minnesota Vikings and the New Orleans Saints.

Particularly noteworthy was his late-season performance, steering the Buccaneers to triumphs in five of the last six games, fundamentally altering the team's fortunes and revitalizing his career.

A pivotal moment came during the Super Wild Card Weekend matchup against the defending NFC champion Philadelphia Eagles, CBS Sports reports.

Mayfield showcased his prowess, throwing for 337 yards and three touchdowns, joining the elite company of Tom Brady and Brett Favre as the third quarterback in NFL history to achieve such feats in a playoff win for multiple franchises.

Continuity with a New Offensive Coordinator

As the Buccaneers unveiled their commitment to keeping the team intact, Mayfield is set to work with a new offensive coordinator, Liam Coen, replacing Dave Canales.

Coen, who previously collaborated with Mayfield on the Rams, expressed his desire to reunite with the quarterback in his new role with the Buccaneers, NFL noted.

Mayfield's stellar 2023 season, amassing 4,044 passing yards, 28 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions, led to his first-ever Pro Bowl selection.

He secured third place in the Comeback Player of the Year voting, marking a remarkable turnaround from his inconsistent stint with the Cleveland Browns.

Having previously played for the Browns from 2018-2021, Baker Mayfield's journey led him to Tampa Bay in 2023, marking his fourth team in a single offseason.

Despite low initial expectations, Mayfield defied the odds, guiding the Buccaneers to a late-season surge that secured their third consecutive NFC South title and a spot in the NFC Divisional Round.

With high expectations and key players like Chris Godwin and Mike Evans showing instant chemistry with Mayfield, the Buccaneers aim to secure a fourth consecutive division title.

The recent Baker Mayfield deal, along with others who re-signed with the Buccaneers, underscores the team's dedication to building a competitive roster for the upcoming season.
