Real Madrid are reportedly interested in acquiring David de Gea, but the Manchester United goalkeeper sounded determined to stay at Old Trafford in the next several years.

De Gea, who will be eligible for free transfer when his contract expires in June 2016, is reportedly on Real Madrid's radar as the powerhouse club is determined to bring the star goalkeeper back to Spanish La Liga.

The 24-year-old athlete started his senior career with Atletico Madrid in 2008 before moving to Manchester United for £17.8 million – the British record fee for a goalkeeper.

With no deal in sight between De Gea and Manchester United, previous reports indicated that the Spain international will eventually decide to return to Spanish La Liga.

But in an interview with FIFA on Tuesday, De Gea hinted that he would love to continue playing in the English Premier League because the level of competition helped him improve significantly over the past four years.

"English football has changed me a great deal," De Gea said. "I've developed a lot physically, greatly improved my concentration and generally improved all aspects of my game. I was very young when I came here, but four years on, things are very good overall. This league really suits me, as you learn a lot here."

Talks about his exit intensified when Manchester United signed veteran goalkeeper Victor Valdes in January. Most analysts considered the move as Manchester United manager Louis Van Gaal's backup plan in case they fail to reach a deal with De Gea before the end of next season.

De Gea, who has tallied 79 saves in 30 Premier League appearances this season, said, though, that he is not bothered by Valdes' presence. In fact, he pointed out that Valdes has been a huge help to him this season.

"Victor Valdes and I work very well together," De Gea said. "I'm very happy to be with him. I'm learning so much from him, not just in goalkeeping terms given his immense experience, but also as a person. He's a very straightforward guy with a lot of character. Moreover, he's always ready to lend a hand."
