Contrary to what NHS previously advised on their column, vegetable oil proves to me more dangerous than butter and lard Independent reports.

Apparently, using vegetable oil in cooking your daily meals can post dangerous and serious health issues as it has been largely linked to substances that cause cancer. Vegetable oil has the tendency to produce toxic substances that, apart from triggering cancer, can also cause brain degeneration. Lard, butter, olive oil and coconut oil are considered the better option.

The said finding is a direct hit on NHS' report, which stated that it's best to use a small amount of vegetable oil when cooking.

An expert indicated that components of vegetable oil produce chemicals called aldehydes when exposed to heat. This type of chemical is highly considered as a toxic material because it can cause several types of cancer and other diseases such as Alzheimers.

Professor Martin Grootveld of DeMontfort University said that the amount of "aldehydes" present in vegetable oil is approximately 100 to 200 times more than the required daily border by WHO. The choice of lard, butter, olive oil and coconut oil as daily alternative for vegetable oil seemingly shows lower content of aldehydes, with coconut oil showing the least threat to human health.

Two previously unknown aldehydes were also discovered by Grootveld, saying that sunflower and corn oil are basically safe unless you expose them to heat. In Grootveld's statement, he said, "It's a simple chemical fact that something which is thought to be healthy for us is converted into something that is very unhealthy at standard frying temperatures."

Grootveld also suggests using olive oil when frying or cooking as they post less threat to the human body. Rapeseed oil has less toxic substances as olive oil, butter and lard. Thus, Grootveld recommends using these than any other kind of vegetable oil.

Vegetable oil has been linked to various diseases and has been a contributor to the most common diseases nowadays including high blood pressure, inflammation, mental health and heart diseases.

According to professor John Stein of Oxford University, the Omega 6 fatty acid that is present in vegetable oil significantly takes over the healthy Omega 3, which is responsible in keeping the brain in its healthy condition.

"If you eat too much corn oil or sun flower oil, the brain is absorbing too much Omega 6," says Stein.
