Suspect in California Movie Theater Shooting Arrested
Corona police reported Wednesday morning, July 28, that a suspect had been arrested in connection with the shooting inside the California movie theater.
Police said Joseph Jimenez, 20, was arrested late Tuesday night, July 27, on suspicion of murder, attempted murder, and robbery.
Reports noted that detectives from the Corona police raided the suspect's residence at the 19000 block of Envoy Avenue in El Cerrito at around 10:30 p.m.
Police said they found a gun and evidence linked to the California movie theater shooting that wounded the TikTok star and killed her friend.
Authorities further noted that the weapon discovered in Jimenez's home matched the caliber of the gun used in the shooting.
"We determined that he (Joseph Jimenez) acted alone in this murder," Cpl. Tobias Kouroubacalis of the Corona Police Department said in a press conference on Wednesday.
Kouroubacalis noted that they still have not figured out the motive for the crime. He added that there was no information that Joseph Jimenez and the two victims had any prior contact before the crime took place.
The suspect is being held at the Riverside Presley Detention Center on $2 million bail.
California Shooting During 'The Forever Purge' Screening
The California shooting occurred while the TikTok star and his friend were watching the screening of "Forever Purge."
Kouroubacalis earlier said he was informed that six tickets were purchased for the said movie showing, and the detectives were trying to track down the other moviegoers.
"The Forever Purge" is the latest installment of the movie "The Purge" in 2013. The horror film series highlights "The Purge," wherein laws are suspended in 12 hours, and people are encouraged to kill one another to supposedly reduce their desire to kill during the rest of the year.
"The Forever Purge" tackled provocative issues such as U.S. immigration policy, racism, class divisions, and the rise of white supremacy.
In this latest installment, the Purge arrives, but the violence and killing continue the morning after, with a shadowy group that organized a "Forever Purge" promises to rid the country of immigrants while simultaneously targeting the wealthy.
