King Charles and Queen Consort Camilla had eggs thrown at them by a protester during their visit to York. Police managed to arrest the York protester as crowds gathered at Micklegate Bar, which was the traditional royal entrance into the city.

The protester was a 23-year-old University of York student. The man shouted, "this country was built on the blood of slaves," while authorities restrained him on Wednesday. The student is currently being held on suspicion of a public order offense and remains in custody.

The university noted that it was "appalled" by the images and would review the incident under its misconduct procedures. The incident happened on the second day of an official royal visit to Yorkshire, during which Charles and Camilla later traveled to Doncaster.

Upon the arrival of the couple, booing from the protesters could be heard before loud cheers from the crowd. The eggs thrown missed Charles and Camilla, who were then both ushered away. Officers restrained the York protester on the ground behind the temporary fencing set up for the King's visit.

King Charles and Camilla Met With Eggs Thrown by York Protester

King Charles was shaking the hands of city leaders when the eggs flew in his direction. He then paused briefly to look at the cracked shells on the ground as one egg was thrown past his face and splattered on the ground.

Camilla appeared to have turned toward the direction of the egg thrower and looked concerned. The King continued to have the conversation he was having before he and his wife turned and walked towards the crowd to continue their walk-around.

One witness noted that the York protester managed to send about five eggs. The witness added that Camilla "sort of flinched a little bit when the booing started." However, the police managed to quell the incident quickly.

King Charles and Camilla are in York for a two-day visit to the county in the north of England. They are scheduled to unveil a statue dedicated to the King's late mother, Queen Elizabeth II, at York Minster.

The statue will be the first one installed since the death of the late monarch in September. The Archbishop of York, Stephen Cottrell, said the incident had not put the royal couple off meeting in public. Meanwhile, King Charles said he and his wife "are deeply touched" to be invited to unveil the statue of his mother.

King Charles and Camilla

In 1981, King Charles married Princess Diana. They started dating in 1980. However, Charles and Camilla were still seeing each other in 1979, with them photographed in a polo match.

Charles and Camilla continued their affair despite being married, according to royal biographer Andrew Morton in "Diana: Her True Story - In Her Own Words."

Princess Diana reportedly confronted Camilla about her affair with Charles, with the book claiming Diana told her that she knew "what's going on between you and Charles." Camilla reportedly responded by saying that Diana "got everything."

In December 1992, Charles and Diana separated, with reports mentioning that Charles was "closer to Camilla Parker Bowles." However, the palace noted at the time that "no third party" was involved.

It was only in 2005 that King Charles and Camilla got married, with Queen Elizabeth absent from the wedding but attending the blessing.
