Lionel Messi and La Albiceleste are now back home in Argentina and they were met with massive celebrations, including a parade in their honor. The World Cup champions also took part in the parade, but things did not go as planned.

This happened shortly after they arrived back home in Argentina, right after they got off the plane, World Cup in hand. Five Argentina players, including Lionel Messi, Rodrigo Du Paul, Angel Di Maria, and Leandro Paredes were all riding at the back of the open-top bus when they were almost struck by a high-tension cable.

The players, regarded as some of the best athletes in the world, somehow managed to duck before hitting the cable. If that ever happened, they would have been swept off the bus, causing injury or much worse.

According to Clutch Points, the Argentina players were OK and continued the celebrations as they were greeted by thousands of Argentine fans in Buenos Aires.

Fans Tried to Get Into Argentina Bus During World Cup Victory Parade

Another scary moment for the Argentina players was when they passed by an overpass filled with fans. As reported, things got pretty wild during the parade, and a couple of fans waiting to see their heroes from an overhead bridge tried to get closer... a lot closer.

The bus carrying the members of La Albiceleste was heading to the Obelisk in Buenos Aires. However, images showed a few fans trying to jump into the open-top bus and meet the players personally from an overhead bridge.

According to the Independent, after one fan tried his luck, a second fan followed suit but missed the bus. That fan repeatedly missed Lionel Messi but fell backward into the crowd.

Argentina Players Forced to Abandon Parade

The crowds celebrating Argentina's win in Buenos Aires were so big that they not just stopped normal traffic, but also prevented members of La Albiceleste from celebrating at the Obelisk, which is a symbol of Buenos Aires.

The players were supposed to greet the fans there via the open-top bus, but because the crowds were so massive, they had to abandon that plan. The bus itself was stopped as fans spilled out into the streets to greet their victorious soccer heroes.

Argentine Football Association head Chiqui Tapia confirmed that the Argentine players were not able to reach the Obelisk as security agents would not allow them to move forward and escorted them out.

Instead, the players got into helicopters and had to greet fans from the air, farther than they could have done from the bus, all because it could not go through the massive crowd on the way to the Obelisk.

"The players will end the festivities by flying in a helicopter over the crowd of fans who gathered in the city of Buenos Aires to celebrate the victory in Qatar," said the AFA president.
