Vivica A. Fox has been casted to play Cookie Lyons' (Taraji P. Henson) older sister, the Wrap reports.

The veteran actress and former "Celebrity Apprentice" star will appear on the show's upcoming second season as the older sister, who comes into town to pay Cookie a visit, according to The Wrap source.

Fox joins an already star-studded cast that will be featured on "Empire" season 2. The A-list cast includes Chris Rock, Ludacris, Mariah Carey, Marisa Tomei, and many more.

News of Fox's character on "Empire" comes on the heels of "Empire" director Lee Daniels expressing his desire to film a Cookie Lyons prequel series, the Wrap reports.

"Let's go back and understand her mother. Let's go back and understand her sisters," Daniels said. "Let's get back and understand the makings of her. That I know, because I know Cookie ... It would be like a prequel," Daniels told the Wrap.

In addition to working to on "Empire," Fox is also working on reprising her role as Jasmine Dubrow in the upcoming "Independence Day" sequel.

Fox's "Independence Day" casting news was announced back in March.

The "Independence Day 2" cast will feature Jeff Goldblum, Liam Hemsworth, Charlotte Gainsbourg, and Jessie Usher as the son of Steven Hiller.

The sequel is set to hit theaters on June 24, 2016, nearly 20 years after the original movie. And 20th Century Fox is behind the follow up. Roland Emmerich is on board the sequel as producer, alongside Dean Devlin and Harald Kloser. The script will be written by Carter Blanchard.
