According to rumors, Jamie Dornan has taken the first step in replacing Charlie Hunnam as Christian Grey, the lead male in the upcoming film adaptation of Fifty Shades of Grey.

E! News reports that Dornan auditioned for the role, which Hunnam allegedly left behind because of his busy television schedule, on Friday.

"He had a really good read today," an E! News source said.

When Hunnam was originally selected, the filmmakers said that chemistry between the actor who played Christian and the actress who played Anastasia Steele, the naïve college student who Christian seduces, was essential. Despite this, the source says that the studio is no longer concerned about how Dakota Johnson, who will play Anastasia, blends with the new lead actor.

"The studio isn't worried about Dakota," the source said. "They think she could handle whoever the guy is."

Dornan first gained fame as an underwear model for Calvin Klein. His modeling career took off with spreads for Armani, Christian Dior and Aquacutum. He has even modeled with legend Kate Moss.

The model then made the switch to acting with a small role alongside Kirsten Dunst in Sofia Coppola's Marie Antoinette. From 2011 until 2013, Dorman played Sheriff Graham in ABC's "Once Upon a Time." The model-turned-actor then confirmed his acting legitimacy by playing a serial killer in "The Fall," a BBC drama.

You may also recognize Dornan from his relationship with Keira Knightley. The pair met on the set of an Asprey photo shoot and dated from 2003 until 2005, Telegraph reports.

Dornan will have to out-Grey a slew of actors rumored to be under consideration for the Fifty Shades of Grey lead role including Christian Cooke, Theo James, Cillian Murphy, Alex Pettyfer, Ian Somerhalder, Alexander Skarsgard and fan favorite, Matt Bomer.
