Eagle-eyed tech-heads who watched the Oscars last night noticed that the selfie seen 'round the world was taken with a Samsung phone... and the company debuted its first-ever Galaxy S5 commercial last night, as well!

According to AI, Ellen's use of the Galaxy Note mini-tablet to take the star-studded photo seen here -- which, subsequently, beat out Barack Obama's "Four More Years" tweet as the most retweeted tweet in Twitter history -- was actually paid for by Samsung itself. And while that may be a great advertisement for the company -- although some critics scoffed that the Oscars was nothing but "one big commercial for Samsung" -- the embarrassing part of it all is, Ellen live-tweeted during the Oscars from her iPhone!

This, of course, was reminiscent of the time that Samsung hired David Beckham to be their global ambassador... only to have him promote his iPhone.

Meanwhile, according to Android Central, Samsung premiered its first-ever Galaxy 5 commercial during the Oscars. Other Samsung commercials included commercials for their Gear 2 wearable. The commercials were edgy and slightly over the top -- much like the Oscars were!

We're still a few weeks out from the premiere of both of these electronics, however, so expect to see a lot more of these commercials leading up to the premiere of the phone and the Gear.

The Samsung Galaxy S5 is an upcoming Android smartphone produced by Samsung Electronics that serves as the immediate successor to 2013's Galaxy S4. Unveiled on Feb. 24, 2014 at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain, it is expected to be generally released on April 11, 2014. As with the S4, the S5 is an evolution of the prior year's model, placing a particular emphasis on an improved build quality, dust and water resistance, a more refined user experience, new security features such as a fingerprint reader, and an updated camera.
