Sony released its newest video game system, the PlayStation 4 on Nov. 15, but a pesky blue light has many gamers upset.

Gamers are calling it the "blue light of death" (a reference to the Xbox 360's "red ring of death"). According to frustrated PS4 owners, a flashing blue light on the PS4 leads to a variety of problems, including no video or audio output and the PS4 turning off unexpectedly.

"There have been several problems reported, which leads us to believe there isn't a singular problem that could impact a broader percentage of systems," Sony said in a statement to IGN earlier in the week. "The number of affected systems represents less than .4 percent of shipped units to date, which is within our expectations for a new product introduction."

To help disappointed users, Sony posted a troubleshooting guide to its support page called "[INFO] Blinking Blue Light PS4 Issues." According to the post, the issues are could be caused by a variety of factors: "1. TV compatibility 2. Issues with PS4 power supply 3. Issues with PS4 hard drive 4. Issues with other PS4 hardware."

To extinguish the glowing blue light, Sony recommends that gamers turn off their system and hold the power button down for at least seven seconds until they hear two beeps. Sony also recommends disconnecting the PS4 AC power cord and checking for visible damage.

If that fails, gamers are advised to contact PS4 customer support.

The PS4 is available starting at $399 and sold one million units during its first 24 hours on the shelves in the United States and Canada. The PS4 will be available in Latin America and Europe on Nov. 29.
