Apple's most anticipated smartphone iPhone 8 is expected to be an iconic device. With its complete design changed and addition of OLED screen display iPhone 8 is rumored to be fully packed with innovations.

According to CNET, Apple is all set to bring in yet another revolutionary feature in iPhone 8/iPhone X. A front facing 3D camera will reportedly be in the device. The feature can be used for a several applications, from users' authentication to 3D selfies and games.

It has been reported that Apple has recently acquired the Israeli startup RealFace for about $2 million. RealFace is a facial recognition software that can be used by the users instead of fingerprint scanner and lock key.

Along with the RealFace app, iPhone 8 is also expected to feature either fingerprint scanner or iris scanner, or both. Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo of KGI Securities stated that iPhone 8 will add infrared transmitting and receiving modules to go with Apple's FaceTime camera.

Forbes, however, has noted some concerns if Apple decides to use the 3D camera in iPhone 8. Apple needs to perfect some areas that can go awry while consumers use the new facial recognition biometric feature.

Facial recognition apps, in general, tend to be unstable. Forbes noted that there can be a number of reasons why facial recognition feature might not work properly.

There can be not enough light in the room or too much light just behind the users' head. Also the device needed to be held absolutely perfectly in front of the face for the feature to work and doing that may not be an option for the user.

Another issue is the sense of practicality. Trying to master face recognition system for various works can be tiring for many. They will then prefer switching to fingerprint scanner or simply key lock codes and patterns.
