Apollo Nida, "The Real Housewives of Atlanta" husband currently serving an eight-year prison sentence for bank fraud, recently spoke with In Touch in his first interview since beginning his jail sentence.

In the interview, Nida dispelled reports that he and his wife and fellow "RHOA" star, Phaedra Parks, were divorcing.

"Yes, we've had problems – especially over the last year – but we've gotten on terms now where I can call her and it's cordial," Nida said. Nida added that he and Parks "speak frequently over the phone."

"I'm hopeful that we can stick things out," he said.

Nida's revelation may come as a shock for many since the mother of two recently sat down with Ellen DeGeneres to announce her decision to go through with her divorce from Nida.

The Season 7 premiere episode of "RHOA" also addressed Nida and Parks' rocky marriage.

Toward the end of the episode, Nida tells Parks he wants a divorce following her decision to skip out on his sentencing in court.

"You abandoned me. Family is supposed to stick by each other," Nida tells Parks during the premiere episode, according to People. "I don't want to be in this relationship no more. I'm gonna talk to divorce counsel and go my own way."

Despite the video footage from the seventh season and Parks' interview with DeGeneres, Nida insists to In Touch that he and Parks continue to work on their marriage.

Nida even said Parks is now considering bringing their two sons to visit him in jail.

"There's a plan to get them up here," he said.

Following his interview, In Touch reported that it reached out to Parks' reps, who denied Nida's claims that he and Parks continue to work on their marriage.

"While Phaedra and the boys [Ayden, 4, and Dylan, 18 months] do speak with Apollo regularly, there have been absolutely no discussions about reconciling," Parks' rep said.
